Is Generative AI morally and technically inadequate? Can we separate the hype around AI from its real potential? Gary Marcus describes the current situation as a perfect storm of corporate irresponsibility, widespread adoption of AI tools, a lack of regulation and a huge number of unknowns.

Marcus has a deep love for AI and its potential for humanity, for years he’s foreseen AI’s abilities and limitations well ahead of other experts – from anticipating current problems with driverless cars in 2016 to accurately predicting issues with ChatGPT-4 well before its release.

In conversation with Jon Cardoso-Silva, Marcus will highlight the urgent need for robust ethical standards in the development of AI technologies, and advocate for a proactive approach to governance that keeps pace with the rapid advancements in the field.

He will bring an informed view of the role AI will play in shaping our future, ensuring we understand what needs to be done to foster a future that is more utopian than dystopian and lay out a vision for ensuring that AI serves humanity's best interests. With his expertise in building AI “the right way,” he will discuss how we can use this powerful technology to improve society, businesses, and even ourselves.
