Studying at the SPP was a transformative experience for me. I chose ½ûÂþÌìÌà because of its unparalleled reputation in public policy and its commitment to addressing global challenges through rigorous economic analysis. The environment at ½ûÂþÌìÌ×surrounded by inspiring faculty and peers from diverse backgrounds—helped refine my ability to navigate complex policy landscapes and think critically about sustainable development.

After completing my studies, I moved to Bolivia to work with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the British Embassy. My focus has been on channeling financial flows to support sustainable finance initiatives in the country while managing UK PACT projects to reduce deforestation in the Amazon. This work has allowed me to bridge policy, finance, and environmental sustainability—something that my time at ½ûÂþÌìÌà prepared me well for.

The analytical and strategic skills I developed at ½ûÂþÌìÌà have been crucial in my role, where I work closely with the local government, financial institutions, and international organizations to create long-term solutions for tackling deforestation of the Bolivian Amazon. It’s incredibly rewarding to see tangible impacts, through supporting interventions that protect forests and local communities.

Looking back, ½ûÂþÌìÌà not only equipped me with the technical expertise to tackle these challenges but also gave me a global perspective and a strong network of like-minded professionals. The experience shaped how I approach policy problems and reinforced my commitment to working at the intersection of climate finance, governance, and sustainability. I hope my journey can inspire other students and alumni to use their skills to drive meaningful change in their fields.

If you're thinking about the SPP at ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, know that it's more than just a world-class academic experience—it's a community that challenges you to think critically, engage globally, and lead with purpose. Make the most of the diversity around you. Some of your most valuable lessons will come from classmates with different perspectives, stories, and experiences. Dive deep into the issues you're passionate about, but stay open to unexpected paths—some of the best opportunities are the ones you didn’t plan for (including finding a life-love partner.. like me!).

If you're drawn to a career in climate policy and development, lean into complexity. The work is rarely simple, especially working in developing countries. But for sure it is deeply meaningful. I found purpose in the Amazon rainforest, and that drives my work everyday. Remember that real impact happens when we bridge policy and people, empowering local communities. Learn to listen as much as you lead. Finally, don’t underestimate the value of empathy in this work. It’s what makes our policy solutions not just effective—but human.
