Can you tell us about your background and why you chose to study the MPA-DSPP programme at SPP?
I was born and raised in Ecuador, obtained my BS in Economics at Wharton Undergraduate and my MBA at the Yale School Of Management. In 2011, I moved to Panama as part of the team responsible for expanding the operations of the family business (a heavy machinery dealership) into this market. The last position I held at this company was VP of Quality and Continuous Improvement.
I developed an interest in Public Policy through my volunteering with a foundation that builds houses for families of limited resources. This interest, combined with my passion for analysing and presenting data, led me to learn about the MPA-DSPP programme at the ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ. Thus, having worked 17 years in the business world, I decided to submit an application. I could not be more grateful to the ½ûÂþÌìÌà for giving me this wonderful opportunity to upgrade and enhance my skillset, and set out on a new career path!
What are the highlights from Welcome and your first few weeks?
The Pre-Sessional Coding and Mathematics Bootcamp made setting down my work briefcase and picking up my school backpack a smooth process! It was an intensive, yet carefully-paced, comprehensive review of key concepts in preparation for the start of the Autumn Term. Additionally, it was a great opportunity to meet and work with other students in the cohort.
What has been a key learning for you so far?
The contributions from fellow students in class discussions and group projects are invaluable. I am constantly learning from their diverse experiences and backgrounds.
What are you most looking forward to?
I am eagerly looking forward to the Capstone Project in the second year, and to working with other students in my cohort to address a real-world challenge, applying the skills we have learned during the programme.
What are you hoping to achieve/what are your main objectives whilst you at ½ûÂþÌìÌà SPP?
I attended a Jesuit high school in Ecuador and was frequently reminded of the Jesuit philosophy of “be more to serve better.” I would say that this phrase summarises my main objective for my time at the ½ûÂþÌìÌà SPP: To challenge myself to grow intellectually and spiritually, in order to better serve society through my work once I have completed the programme.
What are your hopes/plans for your future after graduation?
Even though I do not have a defined plan currently as I am interested in several areas, I hope to be part of an organisation that will allow me to optimally use the skillset I have acquired and my past experience in order to make a significant positive impact in society.
