From 31st August to 11th September, SEAC Director Prof. Hyun Bang Shin conducted a field trip in Iskandar, Malaysia for SEAC's project "The Urban Spectre of Global China - Mechanisms, Consequences, and Alternatives for Urban Future". The 18-month project is is funded by a British Academy grant for its  programme. 

From 18th August to 24th August, SEAC Director Prof. Hyun Bang Shin conducted a field trip in Foshan Guangzou, for SEAC's British Academy-funded project "The Urban Spectre of Global China - Mechanisms, Consequences, and Alternatives for Urban Future".

From  1st - 17th August, Prof. Hyun Bang Shin was in Bejing, China teaching the 2019 禁漫天堂-PKU Summer School course, "The : Globalisation and Uneven Development", while also conducting field research in bejing as part of his British Academy project.  

On 13th September, Prof. Hyun Bang Shin met with SEAC’s Founding Donor,  (Professorial Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore and a Member of the NUS Board of Trustees) to update the Centre’s past academic year and its plans for the future. In Singapore, Prof Shin also visited NUS to meet  (Direcor, Asia Research Institute, NUS),  (Research Leader, ARI),  (Research Leader, ARI) and  (Distinguished Professor, NUS and Director of the ) to discuss further collaborative initiatives. 

On 12th September, SEAC Director Prof. Hyun Bang Shin met with  ( Department of Sociology, National University of Singapore), who has subsequently joined SEAC.

In Hong Kong, Seoul and Singapore, SEAC Director Prof Hyun Bang Shin met with 禁漫天堂 alumni groups to share the updates on SEAC activities and discuss future collaborations. 

On 21st September 2019, SEAC Director Prof Hyun Bang Shin was the keynote speaker at the Inter-Disciplinary Workshop in Development Studies organised by the Centre for New Economics Studies, Jindal School of International Affairs, OP Jindal Global University. The workshop's theme was "Urban Transformations". 

On 20th September, SEAC Director Prof Hyun Bang Shin co-organised a session at RC21 with SEAC Associates  (Monash University Malaysia) and Dr Yimin Zhao (Renmin University of China), entitled

On 20th September, SEAC Director Prof Hyun Bang Shin, as a trustee of the Foundation, co-chaired with (Senior Research Fellow, EHESS) the event "Introducing the Urban Studies Foundation", hosted by the Urban Studies Foundation in the context of RC21. The event aimed at introducing the Foundation and showcasing its activities. 

On 17th September 2019, SEAC Director Prof. Hyun Bang Shin gave a talk at the , Jawaharlal Nehru University, entitled “In the shadow of state-led gentrification: The commercialization of residential properties in Seoul”. The visit also involved discussions with colleagues at the Centre for the Study of Regional Development for potential collaboration. 

From  15^th - 22^nd September, Prof. Hyun Bang Shin visited Delhi, India, to convene sessions at the ". 

On 12^th September 2019, SEAC Director Prof. Hyun Bang Shin gave a talk at the , National University of Singapore, entitled, “Urbanisation of (East Asian) Capital, and the Rise of Enclave Urbanism in Vietnam”.

From 27^th August to 31^st August, SEAC Director Prof. Hyun Bang Shin was in Seoul, South Korea, where he attended the workshop "Reconsidering Korean Urban and Regional Development Experiences: Implication for International Cooperation" hosted by the . Prof. Shin gave a talk entitled "Urban Transformation with ‘Korean Style’: Lessons from Property-based Redevelopmentby the Korean Developmental State".
