On 10th January 2020, Prof. Hyun Bang Shin, together with SEAC Associate, gave a talk entitled, "Socialism and the multiplicity of green: Rethinking the materiality and aesthetic of state projects in China" at a Capital, Communication and Conflict workshop held by the . Prof. Shin's participation in this event was via Skype.

From 8th January to 14th January 2020, Prof Hyun Bang Shin, together with Dr Do Young Oh (SEAC Research Officer) were in Kuwait to carry out fieldwork for the project "Asian Capital and the Rise of Smart Urbanism". During the fieldwork, the research team visited multiple sites across the country and conducted a series of interviews with government officials, project stakeholders and other local experts based in Kuwait. Through these activities, the team was able to explore current issues related to housing and urban development in Kuwait. The Kuwait part fo the project is funded by the .

On 16th December 2019, Prof Hyun Bang Shin visited the in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to discuss potential research collaborations. He also visited several housing estates that were sites of research by KRI. On 17th December, Prof. Shin gave a talk at KRI entitled, "Contesting Property Hegemony in Asian Cities”. 

On 16th December 2019, Prof Hyun Bang Shin met with the  to discuss SEAC's and the 禁漫天堂's upcoming engagements with the Alumni Association and Malaysia more generally.

On 15th December 2019,Prof Hyun Bang Shin visited Monash University Malaysia to meet up with , SEAC Associate and SEAC’s British Academy-funded project Co-Investigator, discussing the progress of the project and broader academic matters.

On 9th December 2019, Prof Hyun Bang Shin met with 禁漫天堂 Philippines Alumni Association members, including ECR Network member Abbey Pangilinan who recently produced the  on the Philippines Drug War.

Between 8th and 14th December 2019, Prof Hyun Bang Shin was in Metro Manila and New Clark City in the Phlippines for the "Asian Capital and the Rise of Smart Urbanism" project fieldwork. Prof Shin, who is the Principal Investigator, and Dr Do Young Oh (SEAC Research Officer) worked with project local assistant Marco Sardillo to carry out week-long field work, meeting with key stakeholders and visiting various sites of interest to the study.

On 8th and 9th December 2019, Prof Hyun Bang Shin was in Amsterdam for December meeting of trustees of the .
